Useful Links

Following are the various links I've gathered together that I've found useful while sorting out the Dakar.

Dakar company / club sites
Dakar Owners' and Drivers' OrganisationThe Dakar Owners' Club site. It carries a full vehicle register and a calendar of future events Dakars will be attending amongst other things.
Dakar 4x4 Design and ConversionsNow the manufacturer of the Dakar kits, they also supply a wide range of parts and accessories for Dakars.
Owners' sites
Eliot Mansfield's Dakar 4x4 pagesWant to learn how to shoe-horn a twin-turbo, charge-cooled Chevy 5.7 V8 into a Dakar? Go here...
Steve Knight's Dakar pagesFull conversion story with plenty of nice detailing ideas (I especially like the idea of re-spraying the dash with plastikote - may have to attempt that!)
John Morrison's Dakar buildNice little pictoral tour of turning a Range Rover into a Dakar.
Martin Welch's converisonFull details with huge quantities of pictures illustrating the teardown and rebuild of Martin's car.
Ginger's Dakar siteLots of piccies :-)
Suppliers
Matt SavageMy local Land Rover specialist. He's used to odd vehicles, so the Dakar doesn't faze him :-)
Blue BeehiveNot some dodgy adult entertainment site, but a supplier of fastners, fixings and auto electrical stuff that simply can't be beaten for price. VERY friendly, helpful and quick delivery. I can't commend this guy highly enough!
Vehicle Wiring ProductsCompliments Blue Beehive by supplying fuseboards, relay bases, switchgear etc.
Premier Wiring SystemsSupply the Rists HD splashproof type connectors employed widely on the Range Rover and Discovery wiring looms. Useful for making up the connectors for the lighting rather than chopping and soldering the existing ones.
BearmachSupply every part for practically every Land Rover.
RSI still prefer the name "Radio Spares", however they're excellent for finding what's available and then sourcing it elsewhere :-)
Nu AganeBody shop supplies. You tend to get a better deal - albeit a less varied selection - from their eBay store. See below for link.
JP Automatic TransmissionsThese guys seem to be able to supply complete rebuild kits for the 4HP22 and are directly recommended by ZF. They have a neat 4HP22 parts list with exploded diagram as a .PDF here.
HuntersMain Land Rover dealer in Derby, but with a very obliging parts desk!
ConsumabulbsDecent suppliers of automotive bulbs, including the hard-to-get H2 bulbs my Hella Rallye 2000s take.
Pugh and SandersSuppliers of various fixturs and fittings. They're a trade supplier, but have a very obliging trade counter at their Burton branch!
Merlin MotorsportTrack day and competition car parts and accessory suppliers, based at the Castle Coombe race circuit.
Demon TweeksTrack day / race / modified car parts superstore - not exactly 4x4-biased but they're a fair chunk cheaper than Europa...
eBay sellers
Honest John'sDecent supplier of air tools, hoists, clamps, socket sets etc.
Nu AganeBody shop supplier selling tack rags, strainers, abrasives, spray guns, masks, mixing pots, polish and waxes.
TompsMoulding and cast-making supplies, but also sell GRP tissue and matting, epoxy, gel coat and complete GRP patch kits - very useful for repairing your Dakar's shell!
Green OvalSupplied my ZF 4HP22 filter kit. Also supply other miscellaneous Land Rover replacement / service items.
SimonWyplUsually has a decent range of light bars, strobes and sirens, LED lamp clusters etc.

If there's a link you think I need to add, please send an e-mail to harry at this domain.
